There is no reason to struggle on with hearing problems and hearing loss. Whatever your age, if you’re over forty, having a hearing test can really help when you begin to notice that you’re having hearing difficulties. Asking yourself these simple questions can help determine whether you need a hearing test.

Has anyone commented on how loud you have your TV or radio?
If your TV or radio seems fine to you but loud to other people it could indicate that you have to turn the volume up higher in order to hear it at a normal level. This is often due to a hearing loss.

Have you or has anyone else noticed you frequently need people to repeat themselves?
If you are regularly asking people to repeat themselves you may be struggling to hear them properly. This could also indicate a number of different hearing conditions.

Is it harder for you to hear people and locate sound sources in crowded spaces with background noise?
If you have difficulty hearing people or pinpointing the exact source of a sound in noisy or busy areas you might be suffering from hearing loss. If following conversations at social gatherings becomes confusing it is worth having your hearing checked.

Do you have difficulty hearing people?
Do you have to concentrate when people are talking to you in person or on the phone? Is there any muffling or distortion to their voices that makes it harder to hear them? Can you hear people when they are talking but strain to understand exactly what they are saying? This may indicate a range of different hearing conditions.

If you have answered yes to one or more of the above questions it makes sense to have a hearing test to give you peace of mind. There could be a number of reasons why you’ve been experiencing hearing difficulties. It’s better to have a hearing test to determine the cause, as many hearing problems can be treated and rectified with great success.
