You Can Retire Happy Abroad

Many of us Brits hope to retire away from the British Isles, perhaps somewhere warmer or closer to the family. But how many of us actually see this dream become a reality?

For many people, retiring abroad sounds fantastic, however it comes with many unknowns, most of which revolve around whether we’d be happy in a new land. Well, according to the latest survey conducted by NatWest International Personal Banking you can certainly put your mind to rest on this one. They questioned a number of people who chose to retire abroad about how happy they were and found that 70% were happy they moved. Additionally, almost 60% of respondents felt that the move had been a better experience than expected.

If the survey is anything to go by, it would seem that people who retired away from Britain led a better lifestyle and enjoyed a better overall quality of life. When questioned on this issue, 25% of respondents indicated that their quality of life was excellent, with almost 70% feeling that they are happier where they are now than if they had been in Britain.

These results are certainly interesting in light of the current economic climate, where many expats are suffering from the weak Pound. However, the recession does not seem to have dampened this demographics financial status, as the report suggests that almost 40% of respondent’s finances improved since moving away. It would seem that this population of retired expats are quite wealthy with the vast majority owning their own home and almost 40% suggesting they are reasonably well off.
